Amateur chefs are invited to put their culinary creativity to the test by making their own salsa at the 2012 Salsa Challenge presented by Taxco Restaurant.  The Salsa Challenge will take place at Discover Sycamore’s Farmers’ Market on Sunday, September 9th, at the corner of Somonauk and Elm Streets in downtown Sycamore.  The contest will begin at 11am, judging at noon and the winners will be announced at 1pm.

Come compete head to head with other local salsa enthusiasts. The contest is limited to 25 participants and pre-registration is recommended, as contestants are accepted on a first-come, first serve basis.  The entry fee is $10 per salsa before Wednesday, September 5th.   For a registration form Click Here .  The entry fee for day of registration is $15 per salsa, and contestants must arrive and register before 11am.  Tomatoes will be provided, but contestants must provide all other necessary ingredients and kitchen utensils. First, second and third places will be awarded prizes from Taxco Restaurant.

“We encourage people to get creative and think ‘outside the box’ when submitting their recipes,” said Jesus Romero, owner of Taxco Restaurant. “The more unusual entrees will surely attract attention from the judges, “he added.

Discover Sycamore’s Farmers’ Markets will return Sunday, June 3 on the corner of Somonauk and Elm Streets in downtown Sycamore.  The market will run through September 30, providing the community with a variety of goods for purchase, activities and live entertainment.  The market will be open every Sunday from 10am-2pm.   Discover Sycamore’s Farmers’ Markets are brought to you by Kishwaukee Community Hospital and Castle Bank.

 

The market will feature both homegrown and homemade products, allowing customers to buy fresh and local.  Not only will it showcase fresh, locally- grown produce but also baked goods, hormone-free meats, artisan cheeses, various wines, roasted coffee beans, homemade pet treats and more.

 

This year’s vendors include Windy Acres, Crump Family Gardens, Ledfoot’s Pet Bakery, South Street Coffee, Inc., Waterman Winery and Vineyards, Inc., Olives 4 You, Theis Farm II, Larson’s Country Market Inc.. Harvest Horizons LLC, Farm Direct Black Angus, The Cheese People of Beloit, Elliot and Sons Bison LLC, Gourmet on the Go and Great Harvest Bread Company.

Discover Sycamore is seeking vendors for the 2012 Sycamore Farmers’ Market. The market is held Sundays, June through September (with the exception of July 29) from 10am-2pm in the City Center Parking Lot located at the corner of Somonauk and Elm Street.   All vendor applications must be received by May 1, 2012.  2012 Farmers Market Application

Last year, Discover Sycamore added live entertainment to its weekly market and will once again be looking for talented musical acts.  Interested  musicians should contact the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce at 815-895-3456 or director@discoversycamore.com.

Discover Sycamore’s Farmers Market is ready to bloom! The 2010 Market will once again be held Sundays June through September on the corner of Somonauk and Elm Street in Downtown Sycamore from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.
