The infamous days of spring cleaning are upon us.  For the majority of us that means spending a day or two (or sometimes more) scrubbing, dusting, vacuuming, organizing and decluttering.  Once you’ve decided what to keep and what to get rid of, why not make a little extra cash by hosting a yard sale?

Discover Sycamore has announced that the 4th annual city-wide estate, yard and sidewalk sale event is scheduled to take place June 14th, 15th and 16th.  It is estimated that at this year’s Treasures from the Attic event there will be as many as 100 sales across town, many of which will be multi-house sales.  A program featuring sale listings will be available at Discover Sycamore member businesses the week prior to the sales.

“We will promote this event all across the Northern Illinois area. Many of our visitors come here every year in search of great bargains,” said Lauren Diehl, Discover Sycamore Director.  “Treasures from the Attic brings hundreds of tourists to our community, and they spend money at our restaurants and stores.”

Discover Sycamore receives phone calls from interested “treasure hunters” all year long.  Any home interested in listing their sale in the program should click here for the Registration Form or call 815-895-3456 for more details.

Looking to clean out your attic and fill  your wallets? Then Discover Sycamore has an opportunity for you! Sycamore is gearing up for its second annual city-wide estate, yard and sidewalk sale event. Treasures From the Attic will take place July 15th, 16th and 17th.  Sycamore residents and business owners can register their sales with the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce by July 1st and be a part of it. This city-wide sale will be heavily marketed outside of the area and will bring in many tourists and ‘treasure hunters’

“Last year’s event was a gigantic success” said Megan Yockey, Discover Sycamore Director, “It was our first year and we were only expecting around 50 houses to sign up, we had over 160!”.  The 2009 event drew shoppers from all across Northern Illinois, even as far as Nebraska to browse the selection. “Many of them come to Sycamore for Pumpkin Fest or Chocolate Weekend and are looking for more reasons to come back and shop here.”  With registration forms already coming into Discover Sycamore, it appears that Treasures From the Attic is doing just that.

Many Discover Sycamore member businesses took advantage of the crowd and held Sidewalk sales during the event. Rich and Roseann Para of Sweet Earth Jewelry and Gifts hosted a sidewalk sale during the 2009 event. “The Treasures From the Attic was very successful for us be a part of.” Said Rich Para, “Having all of our items out during the event was fantastic. Many people were drawn to Sycamore because of the yard sales and stopped when they saw our sidewalk sale. Our customers are elated to receive such a huge discount on our items.”

Discover Sycamore has been receiving phone calls from interested ‘treasure hunters’ all year. This year they are expecting a much larger crowd.  Any house having a yard sale or business having a sidewalk sale can have their location listed on the treasure map.  For more information visit www.DiscoverSycamore.com or call (815) 895-3456.
