Are you ready to rock the block?  Get pumped for this year’s 12th Annual Discover Sycamore Block Party scheduled to take place Saturday, September 15th from 3-11pm in downtown Sycamore. This free day of fun provides entertainment for the entire family including kids’ games, inflatable attractions, DJ, contests, prizes, food from local vendors, beer garden, live music from Shuvlhed and more.

The fun begins at 3pm as families can enjoy some friendly competition in the Kids’ Game Area.  Challenge your friends to a race to the finish line in the inflatable obstacle course presented by Courtview Dental.   Participants will race through several challenges and finish by sliding to victory.  Local businesses will host a fun fair with a variety of game booths and giveaways.   Stop by the magician’s tent and receive a free balloon animal of your choice.

Back for its 3rd year is Bark on the Block, Sycamore’s Top Dog Competition presented by Huckleberry’s Pet Parlor.  Bring out your canine pal to have some fun at the Bow Wow Luau.  There will be five different events just for man’s best friend: Luau Parade, Hula Hoop Contest, Limbo Contest, Shell Game and mutt-arita canine cocktails to enjoy.   Winners will be awarded fabulous prizes from Huckleberry’s Pet Parlor.  The competition will begin at 4pm.  Register your four-legged friends at huckleberryspetparlor.com or call (815)899-3435.

“We’re very happy to have Bark on the Block as a part of Block Party for its 3rd year.   Jenny Kingren and her staff at Huckleberry’s Pet Parlor have put in a lot of hard work to make this a memorable and exciting canine competition.  You won’t want to miss it,” said Discover Sycamore Director, Lauren Diehl.

At 6pm the Block Party DJ will keep the party going as families enjoy local food vendors such as PJ’s Courthouse, Giordano’s, Sycamore’s Country Store and Catering and Sweet Dreams Desserts.

At 8:00pm get ready to party with local favorite Shuvlhed as they rock the night away.   Shuvlhed, a powerful five piece band, has a unique sound and an energetic stage presence.  They are known for recreating the sounds of Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, AC/DC and Twisted Sister.

“Shuvlhed is a local favorite in the Northern Illinois area and continues to build a wide fan base. We are very excited to have them perform at this year’s Block Party ,” said Diehl.

The 50’s are making a come-back in Sycamore during Turning Back Time Weekend scheduled for July 27th through July 29th.  Hop into your vintage ride and cruise over to downtown Sycamore for classic cars, live entertainment and tons of fun.

We’ll kick off the weekend with a free outdoor movie on Friday, July 27th at dusk.  Bring the whole family to Downtown Sycamore and check out “Cars 2” on the big screen.  Discover Sycamore’s Summer on State is brought to you by the Jeff Keicher of State Farm Insurance.  Don’t forget to pack lawn chairs and blankets!

Cruise Night presented by Auto Meter Products will take place Saturday, July 28th from 3-11pm.  Bringing back the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s, Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones will take the stage from 7-10pm.  Rick Lindy and the Wild Ones are known for recreating the glory days with hits from Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and The Beatles.   Discover Sycamore’s Cruise Night will also include a Classic Car Cruise Parade, beer garden, Disc Jockey, food vendors and more!  Cruise Night is also sponsored by The National Bank and Trust Company, American Midwest Bank, Castle Bank, Kishwaukee Community Hospital and Taxco Restaurant Too.

For the second year, the Cruise Night award line-up will include the “Winning Ride” trophy and cash prize provided by Auto Meter Products.  The winner will be entered into the Auto Meter Products WinningRide.com competition.  This provides the winner with a chance to win the ultimate prize, to have your “Winning Ride” displayed in the Auto Meter Products booth at the 2012 SEMA show in Las Vegas.  Vehicle registration will begin at 3pm on the day of the event.  Pre-registration for Cruise Night is available Click Here

Sunday, July 29th brings the 13th Annual Fizz Ehrler Memorial Car Show to downtown Sycamore.  Help the Turning Back Time Car Club reach their goal of 1,000 car show registrations.  Registration will take place from 8am until noon with the award presentation at 3:30pm sharp.   Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of Turning Back Time specials at downtown merchants and restaurants.

Even if you are too young to remember the 1950’s, we encourage you to experience the nostalgic era associated with Turning Back Time Weekend, a summer event that comes around just once a year.  For more information visit discoversycamore.com.

Discover Sycamore’s Farmers’ Markets will return Sunday, June 3 on the corner of Somonauk and Elm Streets in downtown Sycamore.  The market will run through September 30, providing the community with a variety of goods for purchase, activities and live entertainment.  The market will be open every Sunday from 10am-2pm.   Discover Sycamore’s Farmers’ Markets are brought to you by Kishwaukee Community Hospital and Castle Bank.

 

The market will feature both homegrown and homemade products, allowing customers to buy fresh and local.  Not only will it showcase fresh, locally- grown produce but also baked goods, hormone-free meats, artisan cheeses, various wines, roasted coffee beans, homemade pet treats and more.

 

This year’s vendors include Windy Acres, Crump Family Gardens, Ledfoot’s Pet Bakery, South Street Coffee, Inc., Waterman Winery and Vineyards, Inc., Olives 4 You, Theis Farm II, Larson’s Country Market Inc.. This free day of fun provides entertainment for the entire family including a kids’ parade, kids’ games, huge inflatable attractions for kids and adults, a DJ, contests, prizes, food from local vendors, a beer garden, live music from Red Woody and more.

 

The event kicks off with an All Star Kids’ Parade presented by NB&T starting at the Midwest Museum of Natural History, through downtown Sycamore, ending at the Block Party in the parking lot on the corner of Somonauk and Elm Street.  Be sure to sport your favorite team’s jersey.  The best dressed athlete will win a prize!

 

The fun continues from 3-6pm as parents, teens and young children can all enjoy some friendly competition in the All Star Game Area presented by NB&T.  Challenge your friends to a race to the finish line in our Inflatable Obstacle Course.   Participants race through several challenges and finish with a rock climb to the top and slide down to victory.  Or team-up to compete for 1st place in our Bags Tournament.  The entry fee is $20 per team before Friday, September 16th.   A registration form can be downloaded at www.DiscoverSycamore.com, or picked up at the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce office.  The entry fee for day of registration is $25 per team, and contestants must arrive and register before 3:30pm.

Thank you to all of our sponsors for helping to make Cruise Night 2011 one to remember!  We had an outstanding attendance from both car owners and visitors. Spectators got to look at and admire over 200 outstanding vehicles.  A total of 10 trophies were distributed to the different car owners. Vintage Vinyl rocked the stage as the crowd danced the night away.
